About North Macedonia
North Macedonia, officially the Republic of North Macedonia, is a country in Southeastern Europe with its capital in Skopje. It is one of the successor states of Yugoslavia, from which it declared independence in 1991.
It is located in the Central Balkans and covers a total area of 25,333 square kilometers. It is a landlocked country and borders Kosovo to the northwest, Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west. It constitutes approximately the northwestern third of the wider area of Macedonia. The geography of the country is primarily defined by mountains, valleys, and rivers. The capital and largest city, Skopje, is home to about a quarter of the country's 1.8 million inhabitants. The majority of the population are Macedonians, a South Slavic people. Albanians constitute a significant population group, about 25% of the country's population, followed by Turks, Serbs, Roma and other smaller minorities.
