About Argolis

Argolis. A place blessed by nature with unique beauties and irresistible charm. A place glorified by ancient times. In the Argive land, the Mycenaean civilization flourished, leaving a heavy legacy of its unparalleled creations, which, as indubitable witnesses and sleepless guardians of their immeasurable cultural wealth, travel through the ages, revealing the grandeur of the ancient Greek spirit. Along the course of history, Argolis gave birth to great personalities who led the nation's struggles. It is no coincidence that Nafplio, the beautiful city of the Argolis prefecture, was the first capital of the newly established Greek state.

Let us then wander in this dreamlike place, following the bustling streets that traverse the lush forests, the fertile plains, and the stunning coastal areas of the Argolic Gulf, and lead us to the historical cities and traditional villages. The Argolis prefecture is located in eastern Peloponnese and borders Corinthia to the northwest, Arcadia to the west, and is washed by the Argolic Gulf to the south and the Saronic Gulf to the east. It is surrounded by mountains and plains that embrace the area and give the impression of protecting it from any danger, while the Argolic Gulf, with its sea breeze, is united with the green of the vineyards, creating unique landscapes that demonstrate the harmonious coexistence of mountains and sea, proving that nature is the ultimate artist. Our acquaintance with Argolis promises many pleasant surprises.

We begin our tour from Argos, the oldest Greek city. A city with a five-thousand-year history! A city that has showcased a brilliant historical course and a dynamic presence in the Greek space. It is built at the foot of the Larissa and Aspis hills, which protected the city and strengthened its defenses throughout its historical periods. Its geographical location, at the edge of one of the most fertile plains in the country, and its proximity to the routes that connect northern Peloponnese with the Aegean and the Mediterranean, have favored the city's continuous habitation. Nafplio, the city that claims the title of the most beautiful city in the prefecture, is always captivating. The city that was the first capital of the Greek state is at the center of the tourists' interest.

The uniqueness of Nafplio lies in the fact that it is a magnet for thousands of visitors throughout the year. This is because the choices it offers satisfy all tastes and are suitable for all seasons. A few kilometers from the city, there are stunning beaches and fishing villages that have developed into cosmopolitan tourist resorts (Tolo, Voula, Asini, Nea Kios, Porto Heli, etc.). From Nafplio, you can easily access all the archaeological sites in the wider area of Argolis (Mycenae, Epidaurus, etc.) and enjoy the routes that pass through mountainous and coastal areas. While exploring the city of Nafplio, you will discover facets of the multifaceted city. The Palamidi, the Bourdzi, the Constitution Square, the old neighborhoods, the Akronafplia, are some of the stops on your tour to see Nafplio and feel the heartbeat of this lively city. During the summer, you will have the opportunity to attend the impressive performances of the Epidaurus Festival and participate in a traditional celebration. The nightlife is vibrant in Nafplio. You will spend unforgettable nights in the clubs with live music and the bars of the city. No image can compare to the illuminated city.

The past comes alive in the cobblestone streets, meets the dreamy travelers, and awakens the romantic feelings, while the wind brings the sounds of parties, music, songs, happy voices of people of all ages who are having fun. The image of Epidaurus is what the ancient Greeks called 'the charm of the eyes'. The small natural harbor surrounded by green areas and the famous theater of Epidaurus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, compose the grandeur of the area. And, of course, Mycenae. The womb of the Mycenaean Civilization, with the remnants of its great culture (Acropolis, Lion Gate, Palace of Mycenae, Mycenaean Tombs, etc.), is a magnet for thousands of visitors every year.

The place where Agamemnon, Clytemnestra, Orestes, and all the Atrides, but also many other heroes of Homer and the protagonists of Aeschylus' tragedies, lived, exerts a special charm on every traveler. Argolis is a place that has everything. Its proximity to Athens, less than two hours away, the good road network, and the regular bus schedules, contribute to the promotion of the Argolis prefecture as a popular tourist destination. The areas of the prefecture are suitable for long holidays but also for 'short' escapes. A weekend in Nafplio, for example, will refresh you and help you face winter with greater optimism. The tourist infrastructure of Nafplio, Argos, Epidaurus, and all the coastal areas is particularly developed and meets all tastes. Here, hotels of all categories and complexes of rented rooms-apartments operate, ensuring comfortable accommodation. Explore the Argive land and get to know the unique beauties of Peloponnese...
