About Achaea
The Achaea prefecture is located in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese. The area has been inhabited since ancient times and boasts a glorious historical path. Notable cities flourished on its lands and great personalities were born. The impressive historical monuments scattered throughout the prefecture reveal aspects of the region's history. However, apart from its illustrious past, Achaea offers its visitor a plethora of activity options. It features beautiful cities renowned for their vitality, wonderful seaside resorts with developed tourist infrastructure for both summer and winter excursions. The Akraata that has evolved into a popular summer destination? The historic Kalavryta? There are so many places worth visiting to learn about their history, natural beauty, and have fun. Achaea borders Corinthia to the east, Arcadia to the south, Elis to the west, and is washed by the Patras and Corinthian Gulfs to the north. It is situated in a particularly privileged geographical position, as the port of Patras is connected to neighboring Italy and the Ionian Islands.
