Xylokarateia is a small town in eastern Attica, near Lavrio and Keratea. It is located in an area with a mix of lowland and hilly terrain, relatively close to the sea.

The area has mainly a residential and semi-rural character, while in recent years it has developed as a suburb of the wider southeastern Attica region. It still retains several natural areas and open spaces around it.
