Villages in Kefalonia
About Kefalonia
Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian Islands, located in western Greece in the Ionian Sea, south of Lefkada and north of Zakynthos. It is known for its diverse landscapes, combining mountains, caves, beaches, and traditional villages.
The island features famous natural attractions such as Myrtos Beach, Melissani Cave, and the underground lake system of Drogarati Cave. Kefalonia also has a strong seismic history due to its location in an active earthquake zone, which has shaped much of its architecture and rebuilding over time.
Today, Kefalonia is a major tourist destination in the Ionian Islands. It attracts visitors for its beaches, nature exploration, hiking, scenic villages, and relaxed island atmosphere with a balance of tourism and local life.
