Zagorochoria

About Zagorochoria

Zagorochoria is a cluster of traditional villages in the northern part of the Ioannina regional unit in Epirus, northwestern Greece, located within the Pindus mountain range. The area is known for its dramatic natural scenery, including deep gorges, rivers, forests, and iconic stone bridges that connect the villages.

Zagorochoria consists of dozens of small settlements, such as Monodendri, Vitsa, Papingo, and Koukouli, all of which preserve the traditional stone architecture of Epirus with cobblestone paths and stone-built houses. The region has a rich cultural and historical identity and is considered one of the most authentic examples of mountain village life in Greece.

Today, Zagorochoria is one of the country's most popular nature and eco-tourism destinations. Visitors come for hiking, rafting in the Voidomatis River, and exploring the Vikos Gorge, enjoying a unique combination of natural beauty, tradition, and cultural heritage.
