Kranidi is located 76 km southeast of Nafplio. It is an agricultural town and serves as the capital of the Ermionida province. Kranidi is characterized by its preserved local charm, while its impressive neoclassical buildings and beautiful mansions soften the rugged natural landscape, giving the town a unique brilliance.
The local architecture attracts the interest of architects as well as any visitor enchanted by Kranidi. During a walk through the town, one can also see traditional olive presses and the three windmills.
Kranidi is also ideal for religious tourism, as the area is home to many monasteries and churches. Notable examples include the Monastery of Saint Anna, founded in the 13th century and set in a lush location, distinguished by its imposing architecture; the Monastery of Saints Anargyroi, which houses unique works of art, a rare collection of manuscripts, and a notable library; and the Church of the Holy Trinity, famous for its impressive frescoes.
Regarding the origin of the town¢s name, there are two theories. One suggests that “Kranidi” derives from a corruption of the word “Koronida,” while the other claims it comes from the adjective “Kranaos,” meaning rugged and inaccessible.
From Kranidi, visitors can explore the surrounding forests and connect with the natural beauty of the area. It also serves as a base to visit some of the most popular beaches of southeastern Argolis, such as Porto Heli and Ermioni.
Kranidi offers hotels, tavernas, and nightlife venues to ensure a pleasant stay and entertainment.
