HEALING SPRINGS
 |
The healing springs of Paxos (Paxi) are among the most unique and lesser-known natural treasures of the island. These sulfur-rich thermal springs gush from the subsurface near the coastline and have been renowned since the past for their therapeutic properties, particularly in treating rheumatological, muscular, and dermatological conditions. The most famous healing springs on the island are located in the areas of Ozias, Glyfada, and Gianas.
The spring of Ozias, situated near the traditional settlement of the same name in the southern part of the island, is perhaps the most historically significant and accessible. On the other hand, the springs at Glyfada and Gianas offer a more rugged, untamed landscape, where the thermal, mineral-rich water bubbles up from sea caves or right at the water's edge, blending naturally with the salty waters of the Ionian Sea. For generations, locals and travelers from neighboring islands visited these coastal spots to seek natural relief. Today, while these natural springs are not developed into organized, modern commercial spa resorts, they remain a fascinating destination for eco-tourists and wellness travelers seeking an authentic connection with nature. Visiting these thermal spots allows travelers to combine the legendary tranquility of Paxos with the exploration of a hidden, geological facet of the island that remains untouched by time.
