Chora of Naxos and capital of the island impresses every visitor with its unique beauties. It has all the characteristics of cycladic islands, but the monuments from different historic periods at the port entrance, make it unique.

The first picture you see as the ship approaches the island is Portara. It is situated at the small island of Palatia, where according to mythology Theseus left Ariadne. Right on this island is the gate of an ancient temple of Apollo, known as Portara. It was built in the middle of the 6th century, but the construction was never completed.
