The village of Thymiana is famous for its quarries, which produce the renowned “Thymianousi stone.” This reddish porolite has been used as a building material for many of the mansions in the Kampos area. The most important structure built with this stone is the Church of Saint Efstratios, one of the largest churches on the island. Founded in 1890, it stands as an excellent example of ecclesiastical architecture.
Thymiana is located 8 km from the town. Visiting this village, with its traditional architecture and hospitable residents, will leave a lasting impression.
A short distance from Thymiana lies Karfas Beach. You can also easily reach the beaches of Agia Foteini, Megas Limnionas, and Agia Ermioni.
Thymiana is a village rich in history. Cultural events and the revival of traditional customs reflect the residents’ dedication to keeping their heritage alive. Particularly notable are the “Mostra” performances during Carnival, which feature pagan elements and are highly impressive. There are also reenactments of pirate raids on the island.
