Agia galini
 |
Agia Galini is one of the most popular tourist resorts in the Rethymno region. Located 56 km southeast of the city, the area¢s infrastructure rivals that of any modern holiday destination. Large hotel complexes, luxurious studios, and a variety of entertainment and activity options meet the needs of every visitor.
According to local tradition, the area¢s name comes from a vow made by Byzantine Empress Eudokia. It is said that while traveling, she was caught in a storm at sea and prayed to the Virgin Mary to calm the waters. Her prayer was answered, and the place where the storm subsided was named Agia Galini, meaning “Saint Serenity.”
In the picturesque harbor of Agia Galini, you can enjoy romantic walks amidst stunning natural surroundings, while the area¢s dreamy beaches offer opportunities for swimming and practicing water sports.
The main beach of Agia Galini is known for its shallow, warm waters. Nearby, on the road to the village of Krya Vrysi, lies the stunning sandy beach of Agios Pavlos. We recommend swimming in one of the small, secluded beaches formed by rocks and sand dunes—a truly unique experience.
