The Eastern part of the archaeological promenade in Thessaloniki is being upgraded

The Mayor of Thessaloniki Vassilis Papageorgopoulos inspected a few days ago the reconstruction of the Demetrios Gounaris pedestrian precinct from Tsimiski to Egnatia Av. He was completely satisfied by the work done and remarked that when the work is completed, the whole eastern archaeological promenade will be upgraded. The pedestrian precinct passes through important archaeological monuments such as the Kamara, the Rotonda and the palace of Galerios, showing the importance of this city through history.
According to Mr. Papageorgopoulos, this projects aims in making pedestrians¢ circulation easier.
There have been already placed new, traditional lighting pillars and the tiled floors have been replaced with ceramic cotto pieces and pieces of marble. Benches are placed among the flower beds, while special marble stones are the blinds¢ guide.
The project of 990.000,00 ¤ bill of quantities includes the biggest part of Demetrios Gounaris pedestrian precinct from Tsimiski to Egnatia Av. and all the vertical pedestrian precincts (Isavron, Aimilianou Grevenon, Stylianou Gonata and Navarinou).
In 2006 big part of the eastern archaeological promenade in Rotonda and Kamara was upgraded, with the landscape gardening and the highlighting of the monuments.
