International advertisement
The tourist phenomenon in Greece started to grow in the early 20¢s. The Greek State then started to take action in this field diversely.
The foundation of the Hellenic Tourism Organization in 1929 inaugurated the first organized effort to advertise Greece abroad. A constellation of artists (painters, photographers, image gravers, commercial artists, etc) were called to give their own aspect of modern Greece.
More posters were created after the war, when the G.N.T.O. (Greek National Tourism Organization) was constituted again. The G.N.T.O. posters are now showing the pictures that made Greece famous all around the world. New synthesis or modern pictures, typical Aegean landscapes, beaches, churches, ancient temples, natural beauties, they all arouse artists¢ inspiration.
Sometimes in a folkloric way, others in a more cosmopolitan, those posters show modern Greece internationally.
