The village of Seli is located on Mount Vermio, built in a stunning location at an altitude of 1,400 meters. It is 25 km from Veria and 15 km from Naousa.
Seli is at the center of visitors¢ interest in the Imathia region, as very close to this beautiful village – just 2 km away – is the Seli Ski Resort, one of the largest and best-organized ski centers in the country. The ski center occupies the southwestern side of Mount Vermio and stretches across altitudes of 1,500 – 1,900 meters. It is worth noting that it is one of the most cosmopolitan ski resorts in Northern Greece, attracting hundreds of visitors and winter sports enthusiasts due to its privileged location and excellent infrastructure.
According to historical records, Seli was founded between 1826 and 1835 by Vlach shepherds who came from the Pindus region, specifically from Avdella and Samarina. The first settlement was established at the southern end of the village, in an area called Kries Vryses (“Cold Springs”), where the main water sources were located. These springs were a gathering place, especially for women, who filled their vessels with water for household use or washed blankets and rugs there.
Although Seli attracts many visitors in the winter due to its proximity to the ski center, the village is also lively in the summer. Particularly on August 15th, during the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which is celebrated at the village church, Seli is the center of attention. Both permanent residents and visitors from nearby areas come to participate in the festive events, which include a traditional fair, religious ceremonies, and traditional dances performed by local folk groups.
