Metsovo

Metsovo is a mountainous town in the Ioannina region that has developed into a cosmopolitan tourist resort. It is built at an altitude of 1,100–1,300 meters and is located 60 km northeast of Ioannina. The town is distinguished by the stately appearance of its settlements, its unique architecture, and the strong traditional atmosphere that remains alive.
Several of Greece’s largest rivers originate from the mountains around Metsovo, including the Aoos, Arachthos, and Pinios.
Metsovo was the birthplace of many notable figures, such as Nikolaos Stournaris, Eleni Tositsa, Michail Tositsas, and Georgios Averof.
Their most significant contribution was the founding of the National Technical University of Athens (Ethniko Metsovio Polytechnio).
