MONASTERY KEHROVOUNIOU

The Monastery of Kehrovouniou is built in an abrupt slope of 650m height above the level of the sea and it's dedicated to the Annunciation.
It was constructed in the 10th century by the three daughters of a rich family from Tinos. It is a huge building according to the architecture of Cyclades islands. It is combined of the main church and other smaller as and the auxiliary rooms and the monks' cells. It is of great historic value and religious interest because it was the monastery where Saint Pelagia lived. In her small, simple cell, the virtuous nun- and then saint- dreamed of Panagia.
Today, the visitor can see her cell, the museum with remarkable icons and other important heirlooms.
