About Ikaria
Icaria, the picturesque island of the North Aegean, has linked its history with the myth of Icarus, the first man to fly wearing feathered wings. Enthused by this unprecedented experience, he flew close to the sun, with the result that his wings melted and he drowned in the sea near the shores of the island that bears his name.
Icaria is located to the west of Samos. It has an area of 255 sq. km and is characterized as a mountainous island. Landscapes of unparalleled beauty, rich vegetation, dense pine forests, streams, gorges and rivers compose its unforgettable beauties. On the other hand, the breathtaking beaches with vast sandy shores and jagged coastlines, and the picturesque villages with traditional architecture complete the island's puzzle.
Until recently, Icaria was known mainly for its thermal springs. In recent years, the island has begun to develop its tourism and showcase its unique beauties. It is an ideal escape for those seeking a quiet island that, however, offers a range of activities.
During your stay on Icaria, you will swim, practice water sports and enjoy the island's breathtaking beaches as nowhere else. You will enjoy unique walks in nature and see landscapes of unparalleled beauty. Lush forests and mountainous masses that take your breath away fill the traveler's gaze. The archaeological sites, Byzantine monuments, churches and monasteries give another dimension to your journey on the island.
Although the island is not famous for its nightlife, the opportunities for entertainment will not be lacking. In Agios Kyrikos, the island's capital, bars and clubs with live music operate where you will spend unforgettable nights. Finally, what characterizes Icaria is its measure and the fact that it satisfies all the interests and requirements of its visitors.
